Portrait of Amelia Earhart

About

July 2, 1937: Amelia Earhart takes off on the final leg of her around-the-world flight. She never lands. Her disappearance over the vast Pacific remains history's most enduring mystery. Long before she vanished, Earhart was a rule breaker. Born in 1897, she served as a WWI nurse's aide, then studied at Columbia—but her heart was in the clouds. A 10-minute flight in 1920 sealed her fate: 'I knew I had to fly.' 1932: Earhart conquers the Atlantic alone—the first woman ever. France bestows the Knight of the Legion of Honour. She crushes records and stereotypes, a beacon for millions. 1935: Earhart inspires students as a visiting professor at Purdue, championing women in aviation. Then she dreams bigger: a 29,000-mile equatorial circumnavigation. The globe holds its breath. June 1, 1937: Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan soar out of Miami. By July 2, after 22,000 miles, they depart Lae, New Guinea—bound for tiny Howland Island. Radio calls weaken... then silence. The US Navy mounts its largest search ever. Declared dead in 1939, Earhart's legend only grows. She proved the sky belongs to everyone. From Kansas fields to the stars, her legacy of empowerment soars on. 📄 Image Credits All images via Wikimedia Commons:- Amelia Earhart: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Amelia_Earhart_1928_%28cropped%29.jpg - aircraft pilot: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Amelia_Earhart_-_GPN-2002-000211_%28restored%29.jpg See links for full license details. 🔔 Subscribe for more forgotten stories from history: [Your Channel Link] 💬 What do you think happened to Amelia Earhart?
