Donald Trump

A phone call placed by President Trump on July 25, 2019, triggered a political earthquake. What he asked Ukraine's new president would lead to the first impeachment in over two decades. The whistleblower complaint revealed the quid pro quo. In September 2019, the House launched an impeachment inquiry, accusing Trump of abuse of power and soliciting foreign interference. On December 18, 2019, the House voted 230-197 to impeach. Trump became only the third president ever impeached, charged with abusing his office to dig up dirt on a rival. The Senate trial ended in acquittal on February 5, 2020. Only Mitt Romney broke ranks to vote guilty. Trump celebrated, but the scandal had already deepened political divides. After losing the 2020 election, Trump rallied supporters with false fraud claims. On January 6, 2021, a mob stormed the Capitol, halting the certification. Five people died, and democracy shook. Trump faced a second impeachment for incitement of insurrection. Again acquitted, but the legacy of that day endures. The fractures in American democracy remain unhealed. 📄 Image Credits All images via Wikimedia Commons:- Trump–Ukraine scandal: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Volodymyr_Zelensky_and_Donald_Trump.jpg - first impeachment inquiry against Donald Trump: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:House_of_Representatives_Votes_to_Adopt_the_Articles_of_Impeachment_Against_Donald_Trump.jpg - January 6 United States Capitol attack: https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:2021_storming_of_the_United_States_Capitol_09.jpg See links for full license details. 🔔 Subscribe for more forgotten stories from history: [Your Channel Link] 💬 Which event do you think had a bigger impact on American politics: the Ukraine scandal or January 6th? #history #cronologia #trumpimpeachment #ukrainegate #impeachmentinquiry #historicalfacts #impeached #presidentialhistory #trumpadministration #acquitted #romneyvote #trumptrial #january6 #capitolattack #insurrection #secondimpeachment #unhealeddemocracy #trumplegacy
